Most water damage starts as a plumbing failure. What happens in the first few hours after the leak is stopped decides most of the eventual cost.
First: stop the water
Find the source and isolate it. If you cannot identify the fixture, close the main shut-off. Knowing where your main shut-off is, before you need it, is worth five minutes of your life.
A plumber then repairs or replaces whatever failed — a supply line, a water heater, a burst section of pipe.
Then: the job changes
Once the leak is fixed the problem is no longer plumbing, it is moisture in a building. That needs extraction equipment, air movers, dehumidifiers and moisture meters — not wrenches.
This is the handover point where using two separate companies costs people money, because the drying does not start until the second one arrives.
Why one company matters here
M&R does both. The plumber who stops the leak can have the restoration crew and their equipment on site the same day, and often within the hour, which is the window that actually determines what has to be replaced.
