Sewer line replacement can come at a considerable cost. Whether that be a monetary cost, a cost of time, or a cost of something more sentimental. That is why, in the 1970’s an English man by the name of Eric Wood started dabbling with trenchless technology. Mr. Woods had an underground airduct problem underneath his prized mushroom garden and was unwilling to disturb the fungi’s growth. So, he came up with a way to use felt tubing, resin, and plastic to pull through 230 feet of piping. Once his apparatus was in place, he filled the plastic with air and allowed the resin to dry naturally and ultimately inventing cure in place piping. M&R Plumbing Service still uses this pipe lining method as well as new pipe bursting methods.

A myriad of trenchless replacement technologies have been developed since Mr. Wood’s invention. Wikipedia now defines the tech as, “a family of methods, materials, and equipment capable of being used for the installation of new or replacement of existing underground infrastructure with minimal disruption to surface traffic, business, and other activities." Trenchless sewer line replacement is a great cost saving alternative to a complete piping overhaul. When combined with the convenience of sewer clean -outs and video sewer inspections, trenchless sewer repairs are a great way to leave your lawn or garden in pristine condition.

PIPE LINING  OR  PIPE BURSTING

Pipe bursting methods are similar to pipe lining except with pipe bursting the new cure in place pipe apparatus will fracture the old pipe as it moves outward. Pipe bursting is generally considered better than pipe lining when feasible as clearing out the old pipe ensures you don’t lose any flow diameter. Further pipe bursting means your old crumby pipes cannot have an effect on the new and improved ones. These techniques are used when main sewer cleaning will not quite do.
